The choice is yours. Many sites and message boards are full of ads with “photographers” who are willing to shoot your wedding for almost nothing, and in some cases absolutely free. Before signing a contract with so called “photographers” ask your self this question: How can they afford to do this? It’s very simple, most of them didn’t invest in their equipment and training, they are trying to learn at your expense. There is a lot more to professional wedding photography than pressing a shutter button on the camera. Ask these questions before hiring your wedding photographer: Do you have a backup equipment? There are a lot of things that could go wrong with equipment. Professional photographers always carry backup equipment just in case something happens. Do you have fast lenses? Churches are usually dark (for the camera sensor) and flash isn’t allowed during most wedding ceremonies. Professional photographers rely on fast lenses (as an example 70-200mm F2.8) to capture images in those situations. Are you a member of any professional association? Majority of photographers are members of one of few of the professional associations. Being a member helps us stay current on trends/equipment etc. Also gives us an opportunity to participate in continuing education. DON’T JUST TRUST ANYONE TO TAKE PICTURES AT YOUR WEDDING.
